Nowhere does it forbid reasonable regulation in order to protect the lives of innocent people. Of course, it's understandable that, since the Republican party pays its bills with money from the NRA among many other special interests (so do the Democrats, it's just not the NRA, so that's a fight for another day. They have just as many problems!), you would be hesitant to support legislation that would protect people's lives at the expense of gun sales.
The truth is current background checks and current regulations are NOT enough, and they need to be reformed. I am in no way against the Second Amendment, for I find the values instilled in the Constitution to very much represent a balance of the longterm interests of this nation, I simply ask that in order to make progress toward preventing even more deadly shootings and in-the-moment suicides that you take the time to consider what is really valuable and important: is the money from the NRA and the propagandist interpretation of the Second Amendment really more important that the lives of the almost 6,000 people who have died this year due to gun
