ENVM 665 Risk Management: Question 1
What are the two major general types of chemical sources that result in human exposure to those chemicals and provide a simplified “total” human exposure model showing the pathways that determine the total human dose from those chemicals.

Name and describe the steps that you would recommend in establishing the risk assessment program risk assessment program.
If I have been called to advise a client for set up risk assessment program as part of an evaluation of an abandoned chemical storage facility;
First, I would like to describe the risk so,
“Risk is defined as the probability that an event will occur. It can also be defined as the probability that a health effect will occur after an individual has been exposed to a specified amount of a hazard” (KAD,2002). Risk assessment is the process of gathering all available information on the toxic effects of a chemical and evaluating it to determine the possible risks associated with exposure. The process of gathering and evaluating the information can be divided into the following: Step 1: Identifying hazards
It is very important for employers to assess the health and safety risks at he workplace by systematically checking some of the common hazards like(KAD,2002). Physical which includes awkward postures, slips and trips, noise, dust ,computer equipment …show more content…
The record provides proof of the assessment that it was carried out and later sued as a basis for review of the best working practices(KAD,2002).
Step 5: Reviewing the risk assessment
A risk assessment plan should be kept and reviewed continuously in order to ensure it meets the following; First, it must comply with the law and ensure safe working practices should be applied like safety management practices Taking into account new working practices like new machinery and more demanding work targets(KAD,2002).
ENVM 665 Risk Management: Question 4
A tank farm at a local chemical distribution facility is leaking and is contaminating the groundwater, causing a concentration directly beneath the site of 15.0 milligrams per liter (mg/L). The groundwater is flowing at the rate of 0.20 meters per day toward a public drinking water well one kilometer away. Preliminary measurements indicate that the chemical is subject to degradation in the aquifer with a half -life of 10 years. It also appears that there is a retardation factor in effect, whereby the rate at which the chemical flows is only 20% of the rate of groundwater flow. To be conservative, assume the pollutant does not disperse within the aquifer, but
