AP Language & Composition: Song Rhetorical Analysis The song “Not Afraid” by legendary rapper,Eminem, shows the transformation of a troubled soul and also relays a positive message. From the powerful melody to the meaningful lyrics, Eminem and others involved created a sense of togetherness with an audience that has also experienced the ups and downs life has to offer.
At the start of the song, Eminem talks over the chorus as if he was reflecting on his life;which in turn creates a juxtaposition between the positive melody and his negative past. As he says, “yea it’s been a ride I guess I had to, go to that place, to get to this one” it conveys to the audience that he has turned over a new leaf. Also, from the get go he uses “I” which shows the song is sang in first person. Knowing this, the listener understands the song derives from personal experience. So before he even gets to the lyrics he has established a trustworthy relationship with the listener. As he says those words it gives the listener a chance to understand his message and take some time to reflect on their own life. …show more content…
It’s a message to all the people that once looked down on him; he’s stronger than they think and he will disappoint them with success.
