The first risk management strategy that I think is appropriate for the Northern Walkway is about injuries. I chose this strategy so I was able to keep myself safe whilst on the walk. As it was for the full day, we needed to make sure that we looked after each other and ourselves. I think this was an important aspect to focus on because we had someone get injured on our Northern Walkway tramp. This was due to uneven ground and a past injury which caused a more serious injury. Looking after myself and others physically included watching where we were going, staying together as a group and also having a first aid kit to help us if we needed it. Another reason why I chose to look after myself and others for when it came …show more content…
I chose this strategy because before we went on the tramp, we noticed that it was supposed to fine with high cloud and the northerly wind strengthens. However, since we were so high up on the ridge of the hill, even though it said it would be high cloud it would be a bit different up on the ridge. I also chose this strategy as Wellington weather tends to change very dramatically and quickly so we had to be prepared for all types of weather. I applied this strategy by having the correct gear which included a waterproof rain jacket which was also a windproof jacket, a thermal, warm pants and a …show more content…
Kaukau. The wind picked up and I used my waterproof and windproof jacket to keep the cold wind off. If I wasn’t fully prepared with the right equipment I would have been extremely cold along the ridge and it would have increased my chances of getting hypothermia. Because we had all been prepared, it meant that we were able to all look after ourselves without having unnecessary things happen. I chose this strategy because Wellington weather can be very unpredictable and we needed to be prepared for anything. This was extremely relevant to the risk management strategy of bad weather and exposure because we hit high wind on our track. It was extremely important to have the right gear because we were exposed and this could’ve lead to hypothermia and other things like a cold. This strategy was probably the most suitable and appropriate for the weather that we experienced on the tramp because it got very cold and very windy. This was a positive strategy to choose because it meant that we were all physically prepared for the wind and how hard the track had become because of the wind. Mentally it was also quite tough because even though some of us were cold, we had to keep pushing on no matter what the circumstance was. The negative out of this risk management strategy would probably have to be not doing enough research of the track. This meant that we didn’t know when to put on our
