In the past months, rising tension between North Korea and the United States have raised some eyebrows and caused some to have growing concerns in terms of how the issue may pan out.
The tension between the United States and North Korea will most likely not escalate enough to a nuclear war, according to former defense secretary, William J. Perry, who states that “North Korea is incredibly unlikely to launch an unprovoked nuclear attack.” This may ease some fears on the growing concerns of war between these two nations. It is entirely understandable that people feel this way with a new leader in power, many are uncertain to how he might react to the North and their threats.

North Korea has, however, shot down a U.S. warplane before in 1969 during Richard Nixon’s presidency, which back then raised tensions to a similar point to how they are not, but not to this prolonged extent.
Even though North Korea states that it will shoot down a U.S. plane not in its airspace, not only is its own air force outdated but such a move could bring both the United States and North Korea into a war.
If a conflict were to arise, however, the threat of a nuclear war would be very low due to North Korea’s goal. Perry stated that “[t]hey are seeking survival, not martyrdom,” and although the North might seem reckless, they are not crazy.
The only chance or opportunity that North Korea would have to fire their nuclear weapons is if they are cornered and have no other options. While it might seem like North Korea would not mind launching their nuclear weapons, they would rather survive than be
