North Korea has done many things which have caused the rest of the world to place sanctions on them. Some of the reasons for the sanctions include the lack of human rights for the North Korean people, government corruption, and developing nuclear weapons. Are U.S. sanctions enough in dealing with all of the North Korea problems? Here are some reasons they can or can't help North Korea problem. Human right is a big problem in North Korea. Majority of North Koreans must perform unpaid labor at some point in their lives(¨North Korea¨). They also have food shortages, political prison camps, executions, torture and inhumane treatment such as rape, sleep deprivations, and beatings(World report 2013). U.S. sanctions are unhelpful when it comes to human rights because we don't know how they will impact ordinary citizens. If anything the …show more content…
The ruthless dictators of North Korea said that they have long had a hostile relationship with the U.S. vowing to destroy America and wipe it off the map(Smith, Zissou). That is another reason the U.S. is trying to stop North Korea, because they might actually do that. North Korea's nuclear program is particularly alarming for not only the U.S. but its allies in Asia such as Japan and mostly South Korea(Smith,Zissou). They are worried because a single bomb can wipe out an entire city and kill millions of people(Smith,Zissou). For over the past two decades the U.S. has tried to limit North Korea's nuclear capabilities through negotiation and tough economic sanction but neither worked(Smith,Zissou). There is no such thing as a good solution at this point. If there was a solution, wouldn't we have done something already? Most officials agree that North Korea is unlikely to give up its nuclear weapons program. (Smith,Zissou). Given the secrecy of the North Korean government many of its citizens have no idea about the outside world or even the reality of what happens around them domestically. The mere fact that many of the citizens within North Korea have no idea how babies are conceived just shows that human access to information is very limited in comparison to other areas of the world. The only benefit that this provides for the country is ignorant loyalty in support for their country. Given that much of the well developed and thriving world utilizes a democratic system of government with well supported freedom of speech, many issues get solved for different areas in an economic system. Because North Korea is a planned system they get to decide the fate for all areas of the economy and people are brainwashed to show loyalty to that.…

Reading chapter 14 helps to understand how North Korea was related to the U.S. The goal of the United States government was to stop nuclear development by North Korea. Like the United States, other countries such as China and Russia were not opposed to North Korea, but they didn't support the idea of nuclear ownership of North Korea. Therefore, owing nuclear power prevented North Korea from having faultless relationship with other countries. Hazel Smith points out issues in North Korea through chapter 15.…

It is within reason to believe that the U.S. could have dropped a nuclear bomb on North Korea as this would have ended the war and prevented the U.S. from further losses. No bomb was dropped however, and U.S. recovered from the initial shock of the Chinese army. In fact, the U.S. eventually managed to drive the Chinese and North Korean armies, above the 38th, where the two sides fell into a stalemate. This is perhaps when a third world war looked imminent. Much like Japan at the end of World War II, the North Korean army had been driven back into their own territory, yet refused to surrender.…

North Korea is known for its lack of human rights. Citizens have limited freedoms, such as having a specific haircut, working a certain job, and only viewing propaganda media channels. These media channels portray the leader of North Korea as an exalted figure that is to be worshiped and followed. Because North Korean citizens know no better, they end up believing that this is the only way to live, which directly results in their silence. This easily allows for North Korean citizens to be killed or punished for any violation of their excessive rules.…

The Ignored North Korean Genocide The genocide in North Korea has been happening for decades, evidence of these camps has been traced back to the end of the Korean War in the 1950’s. Ever since the first reports of these labor camps, the U.N has done little to nothing to stop them as well as the death happening inside of them and that is why the genocide in North Korea is being ignored by the rest of the world. The things happening in North Korea have not been labeled officially as “genocide” by the United Nations, however studies from the United Nations have shown the terrible genocide-like acts that are being committed in North Korea. “A commission of Inquiry (COI) established by the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC), chaired by…

Nuking North Korea A young man is at his house watching T.V. when an emergency broadcast comes to informing him that North Korea has launched nuclear warheads that are to land in several big cities. That is what many people imagine when they hear “North Korea” and “Nuclear Strike”. When North Korea first launched its missile in February the rest of the world went on red alert, many people now believe they are a serious threat to the United States, because of how quickly they are advancing their military technology, the U.N should continue to tighten sanctions as time goes on, rather than strike them first because the Kim Jong-Un does not at this point actually have the power to back his threats.…

Sanctions according to the former US president Woodrow Wilson is a "peaceful, silent, [and] deadly remedy" and currently there are sanctions placed on North Korea. Critics can say that this deters North Korea from building weapons of mass destruction thus illustrating how it is not necessary to ever use preemptive strikes. The problem with this is first, sanctions placed on states that sponsor terrorism are ineffective . This is because sanctions are not used to change the mind of a foreign government, rather they are used to please the domestic outcry for action . Secondly, for terrorist groups, there are often extremist and to them, it is often a total war or a divine conflict where they are on a mission to change the world for the better…

North Korea can be seen as a child. They have a small nuclear stockpile, and are trying to show its power by testing missiles, then making claims of having powerful weapons, and suddenly, when North Korea doesn’t get their way, Kim Jong-un starts making threats of nuclear war. Now is the time for the United Nations to step in and do something. Korea was originally a part of the Japanese Empire. In November 1943, Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Chiang Kai-shek met at the Cairo Conference to discuss what should happen to Japan’s colonies, and agreed that Japan should lose all territories it had conquered by force.…
