In 1984 the location of the story is held in London, Oceania. Oceania is a superstate combined of multiple countries formed as one. Oceania is controlled by a totalitarian dictatorship. All surrounding superstate are also under totalitarian dictatorships. The Party, the formal name of Oceania’s government, has created a society built on the basis of control and eqaulity. As we find out later, the purpose of all the lies, and brainwashing is solely for power. Not money, not land, but pure power. Similar to North Korea's government, its “Supreme Leader” feeds off the fear and praise of its inhabitants.With two societies that treat its inhabitants poorly, and disregard human morale, there are many similarities between them.
The Party seeks to eradicate human emotion and pleasure completely. They succeed in various forms in carrying this idea through. For example, the bond between parent and child has vanished. Children are the feared ones in that world. They hold the power of life and death in their hands. Becuse of their young , malleable minds they are targeted at a younge age.

In 1984’s the entire world is captured and led by some form of dictatorship. There is no ulterior power source other than the three superstates we learn about. Oceania, being the biggest superstate, controls a gigantic portion of the earth. On the other hand Texas is approximately 5.7 times greater than North Korea. Oceania uses its size to guarantee continue control. However, North Korea is immensely small in comparison, It mainly has the ability to instil fear and control of its own citizens. Because of Oceania’s influence and size the government is able to reach a bigger audience. In today’s society people around the world may be worrisome of North Korea and its threats, but overall it's impact is not
