Document Seven states that “So many “I’s”! So many selfies! Not enough “us’es” and “we’s”!” This states that technology has made people very self centered and selfish. It then goes on to call Facebook an “anti-social network.” In Document Seven, it says that “we sit at home on our computers, measuring self-worth by numbers of followers and likes, ignoring those that actually love us.” In my own life, I have friends that I have known for years that now would rather use apps to communicate as opposed to face to face interaction. These friends also spend horrible amounts of time online, away from their families. In Blue Gold, Sylvie’s online campaign (p.115) is an example of what people can learn from cell phones and the internet. However, studies now show that the average adult’s attention span is “one second than that of a goldfish.” This is an example of the long-term damage that can be afflicted upon our youth because of technology.
