There are many benefits when it comes to intermittent compression devices particularly the one named Normatec. One specific benefit that is always mentioned is that this device is extremely portable. An athlete can take this device anywhere that he or she desires because of the rechargeable batteries. This is a phenomenal tool to have for an athletic trainer and a massage therapist because many of them will not have the chance to get their hands on every athlete for a massage due to the timing issues. This will also allow athletes to receive that massage type feel within the comfort of their own home and being able to spend more time with their families instead of spending so much time in the athletic training room. Though the Game Ready and the Normatic share similarities, there are also different in many ways. Both the Normatic and Game Ready devices are intermittent compression device, but the Game Ready is a cryocompression unit. This means that it is both intermittent compression and cryotheraphy in one. Once I placed the Game Ready unit on, I started to feel both the tight squeeze of the compression and the bitter coldness of the ice. The Game Ready is able to provide two of the six components of the POLICE method. The Game Ready is able to produce both compression and ice at the same time which makes it extremely efficient. Whereas the Normatic unit is only able to produce the compression aspect of the POLICE method. This is not to say that the Normatic would not be efficient when it comes to treatments of acute and subacute injuries, but it is just not as efficient as the Game Ready is when it comes to this issue. The place where the Game Ready pales in comparison to the Normatic is that the Game Ready produces ice, which would not be good right before competition because a person needs warm and ready to activate muscles to perform at a high
