Social norms are expectations of behavior, and standards that are accepted in social groups of society. With social norms we already assume and predict that certain behaviors will come to pass just because of the mere fact that behaviors have been grilled in our lives since we took our first breathe in life. We become sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, fathers, mothers, grandparents, friends, lovers, and so much more. With predicting behaviors, we can also understand behaviors, and communicate with each other sometimes in non verbal ways just because of the fact that we understand each others behaviors. Social norms and conformity can relate a lot. Social norms provide a sense of order. We tend to establish a sense of conformity because of the expectations we hold on ourselves, and the expectations social groups uphold on us. My friend for example, works for one of the Attorney General offices in New York City and having happy hour from 3-6pm every Friday is a social group norm for her office. Not performing on “chill Fridays” will make you stand out and seem as she says it, “weird”.
