I have to admit, while reading this article, I too was wondering why Regan would take John back and lift the restraining order after he viciously beat and sexually assaulted her to the point of hospitalization. I couldn't help but question how a mother could put her children in such a volatile situation in which they were physically assaulted and at-risk for being removed from her custody. However, I also understand the reasons why Regan Martin chose not leave.

Unfortunately, regardless of the charges pending against Samolis, his parental rights to their two sons were still intact. This meant that, in order for her to avoid kidnapping charges, he would need to grant her permission to take their sons out of state, which he did not do. Once the survivor feels that they are able to live on their own (usually after two years), this organization is able to provide them with subsidized housing to help them provide a new life for themselves and a solid foundation for their
