I know that sugar can be detrimental to your health, and that too much of it can lead to diabetes and obesity. Unfortunately for me diabetes runs in my family, my father and brother have the disease and in my extended family a number of my aunts and uncles have it. I know that I have a higher chance of getting diabetes than most people, and now being so busy I don’t have the time to make preparations to eat healthy. I do try to limit the amount of sugar I take in, to avoid diabetes, but now after learning about the ill effects that sugar can have on your mind and thinking, acting like crack and cocaine. I decided to try this one day, with all the left over Halloween candy I had, I ate about 10 pieces of candy and then tried to read a book. I was too hyper to really concentrate and I couldn’t sit still to comprehend what I read. I tried the same thing after eating an apple and I understood the information much better. After I actually tried this for myself, I remember what Professor Walsh was saying in class about how there have been studies that report that Oreos act like crack on the body. After learning about this from class and the book, I tried to implement this but I didn’t just keep this information to myself, I told my father who is a diabetic and he started by decreasing his sugar consumption. He started reading the labels carefully before consuming a drink or snack. He decided to see a nutritionist and to help him with this. He lost 20 pounds in a month. He said “I feel great, both physically and mentally”. He states that he can concentrate on what he is doing. My father’s nutritionist, Nancy Mazarin says “Sugar is poison, we do not need added sugar in our diet, and that we get enough from a well-balanced diet”. I now understand what she means in this regards, especially after reading about this in the book. I really enjoyed reading “The Brain’s Way of Healing:
