Nordstrom keeps its “competitive advantage” by providing top-quality customer service, premium selection of fashion brands, which gives the company high brand equity and reputation as being hailed as one of the best fashion retail stores nationwide. Nordstrom offers skillful pricing of inventory that gives Nordstrom a competitive advantage. This gives the women’s clothing category a leg up while stores women’s clothing category, while stores like Wal-Mart and JC Penney’s that use EDLP pricing models may lose sales due to lack of extra fashion carriers.

This company benefits from offering more fashion-forward products, which most department store competitors like Macy’s cannot level up to with Nordstrom’s higher-end fashion merchandise. This company also offers a higher end experience for its shoppers with bold displays, fixtures, and a beautifully designed free-form layout.
Nordstrom is known for their great customer service, along with a “no questions asked” policy and same day, same delivery service. Since 1995, Nordstrom ranks highly in customer service surveys. Every year, Nordstrom ranked as the consumer fashion retail industry in service quality. Nordstrom applies this customer service knowledge to technology that proves it provides retailers with a competitive advantage (Investopedia). As retail switches over to online stores, retailers who are attentive to their online shopping segments help the most. Nordstrom will focus on improving customer experiences online to increase sales, obtain new customers and retain existing customers.
