Nordhouse Dunes Campground: A Short Story

Improved Essays
The bear looked towards us and we quickly ran. It was the summer of 2010 and we went up camping at Nordhouse Dunes campground(Manistee National Forest). Its was a bright sunny Saturday morning. The smell of fresh bacon being cooked over a campfire with a nice glass of milk to drink. We had the whole day planned out for us. Eat breakfast, and go for a walk in the dunes. Then later that night we decided that we would make some s'mores once it gets dark. It was gonna be a normal camping trip, but the bear had other plans.
The day had gone by we ended up riding our bikes for a couple hours. We returned the the campground and my mom made up some hobo pies(sloppy joe inside two slices of bread cooked over a fire). We loaded up the dogs in the van

A Taste of Domesticity in Stokes State Forest Throughout my four years of high school, I had never had a friend come back from a post-prom weekend in Wildwood and describe to me what sounded like a “good time.” The stories they told always had the same synopsis that centered around drunken fun and even drunker stupidity. Hordes of juniors and seniors slept in small dirty motel rooms. They spent way too much money on alcohol, and they often got swindled into paying hundreds of dollars to stay in an otherwise dirt cheap motel because no decent place would allow teenagers to party like they did. They sat in their hotel rooms and drank the beautiful New Jersey beach days away, waiting for the sun to set so they could continue their drunken…

As the famous saying goes, “Bears would be bears”. Okay. That’s not a saying.
