The tarantella is described as a zealous dance full of upbeat movement. It is a dance mainly preformed by women to arouse the love of their partner. In the play Nora dances the tarantella to please Torvald; this symbolizes a side she does not normally show. Torvald states, Helmer:” Slower, slower!” Nora: “I can’t do it any other way.” Helmer: “Not so violently, Nora!” Nora: “This is the way.” Helmer : “ No, no- that is not a bit right.” Nora: “Didn’t I tell you so?” (Act 2 Nora, Torvald).
