E 'from there that was born my great love of Nora Ephron. Many of the things he wrote are so engraved in my memory to the point that when I found myself choosing between a black coat and a red I flashed to mind that said, "Never buy a red coat!" and then my choice was obvious. Like when you happen to remember that particular thing that you repeated your mother, your grandmother or your aunt.

A few days ago I saw on Sky Art "Everything is inspiration" ( "Everything is copy"), the HBO documentary on his life, written and directed by his son Jacob Bernstein.

The title of the documentary is a kind of mantra that sums up the life of this extraordinary journalist, screenwriter and director. Daughter of two Hollywood scriptwriters, the mother repeated

Kate Peterson’s lyrical essay To All Those Who Say Write What You Know, is a two page nonfiction memoir of her life in London. The title of Kate’s lyrical essay is significant because she is addressing an audience who demands that one should write of things they have knowledge or firsthand experiences. This is may sound simple and inspiring at first for writers, but attempting to write on what you know can be a challenging request because memories can be distorted. This was evident in Kate’s lyrical essay examining each paragraph. The arrangement of her paragraphs suggests that Petersen is authentic in her narrative voice because she is not restricted in her essay.…

The Reaper in Development When Reading the Boston Photographs by Nora Ephron it cause many to question the theories of right versus wrong on what the media should and should not do when it reports what it considers to be news worthy. Should a picture in the act of death with the shadow of The Reaper clearly stained into the films emotion be shown to the masses or should the privacy of the human mind and dis-involved ignorance of humanity take hold over what is acceptable when viewing the realities of the world. There are key reasons why it is necessary to show photographs of this nature which are as follows to wake up the world to realities, to invoke the heart. Adverse truths are often difficult to accept. Humans’ inquisitive minds are always striving to uncover truth. However, people have the tendency to believe only the positive truths. Truth is no longer universally accepted because people are extremely selective with the information they deem to be true. The unaccepting attitudes towards negative truths can be observed in “The Boston Photographs” by Nora Ephron and “The Allegory of the Cave” by Plato.…

I've only seen a few of Nora Ephron's films although I will admit that I'm a fan of her writing more than I am of her movies. However as a person who loves rom coms, I can definitely appreciate what she has done for the romantic comedy genre. Thus I was why was looking forward to picking up Erin Carlson's I'll Have What She's Having: Nora Ephron and the Three Movies that Changed Romantic Comedy. Written from a omniscient yet also objective and observer like perspective, I'll Have What She's Having reads very much like a biopic/documentary of Nora Ephron and her most well-known filmography.…

Many people tried to say that it was invented by journalist, but it was actually created by lower class American citizens as a slang word. This was actually a sociological and economic challenge and, again, the people won. His view of this point is a very unique perspective because most people would tend to just automatically agree with what journalists write, but he calls their work into question. Third, the critic talks about formula filmmaking. Essentially, this is the concept of how the movie creators bended to produce whatever movies the people wanted.…

I agree with this argument completely. This review covers how each character handles their grief. I agree that the losing of Phoebe, Norah was forever changed. An excerpt from the story states, “She kept for this knowledge and for Paul, the rage and lostness in his eyes. For her daughter, never known.. for the multitude of ways in which their love had failed them all, and they, love” (Edwards 304) Which speaks of all the different directions Norah feels pain for.…

Films are products of their time and evolve as American culture evolves. As such, directorial use of existing technology, and the cultural desire for improved movie-making have led to the development of the motion picture industry. “To most people, a movie is popular entertainment, a product to be produced and marketed by a large commercial studio. Regardless of the subject matter, this movie is pretty to look at – every image is well polished by an army of skilled artists and technicians” (Barsam & Monahan, 2016, p.3).…

It was up to her to investigate how certain things had really happened close to two years ago as far as Nora Arellano was concerned. Of course, if it was really up to her, she would have kept it forgotten, just some minor slip in her mind as she went about her life being herself and living a life with a name that didn’t whispered any link to her past. Nevertheless, this alias was recent and uncontaminated than the others. It was a lickety-split patchwork of her mother’s given name and a last name she fudged together that was good enough to use courtesy of the white pages directory in the telephone book she discovered during one of her many stays in one of the motel rooms she slept in while between apartments. “Too many questions and not enough…

Auteur of Coming of Age Richard Linklater is a self-taught director who has been creating films since the 90’s. His films are intensely honest and realistic in their depiction of life. In order to be an auteur it is necessary to create movies in which a part of them resides in each of their films. This is true of Wes Anderson and his dream world, and of the Coen Brothers and their dark humour, moreover, Richard Linklater is an auteur in that he uses his personal experiences to build his films. Pursuing this further, Linklater repeatedly focuses on the passage of time, the act of communication and his depiction of masculinity and femininity, and his films always take on a natural humanistic perspective.…

Nora Ephron, former reporter for the New York Post and columnist and senior editor for the Esquire, thinks it would be a good thing if more photographs of death and dying were published by newspapers (176) and gives many reasons why but I’m going to have to disagree with her. The Boston Photographs was an article that talks about images of a woman who died in a tragic accident in 1975. What really sparked up the conversation was that her dead body was published in the article in the Boston newspaper.…

How well does your family work together and treat each other? How your mother and father treats you and each other can help the dynamic of the family flow better. In the play A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen, Nora’s children affect her and Torvalds life, so how does Nora’s interaction with her children develop the play’s themes? Well, Nora's relationship with her kids strains her and Torvald's relationship because Torvald still looks at Nora as if she is a child even though she is the mother of the children.…

Nora Helmer is a very complicated character despite the fact that at the beginning of this play it seems like quite the opposite. At the beginning of act one, Nora is whimsical and gleeful and very much like a child. She is very much living in a fantasy world or a doll’s house as the title of the play suggests. Nora has been taught since birth to be similar to a doll. Her father treated her as such in the past and so does her husband at the time the play takes place.…
