Essay On Nonverbal Communication

Through nonverbal communication, people could express their inner feelings and thoughts without any verbal communication. Sometimes, simple nonverbal communication could show stronger impression than intricate sentences. In addition, one nonverbal communication could mean more than one definition. Nonverbal communication represents a significant symbol of something. For example, emblem, which is the posture or gesture has word meaning, could be the great example of the body metaphor. I could not do the emblem for the whole time, therefore I contemplate visual image like dressing up or makeup. I followed the direction of the bruising makeup tutorial. Generally, I used pink, dark red, purple, yellow, blue and black eyeshadows to make a bruise on my face. I decided to make a big bruise right next to the right side of my face that covers the top of the cheek, eye, and the top of the eyebrow. I started to make boundaries with pink and purple color, used yellow color to look swollen on the inner side of the eye, and I mixed blue and black color to put on the corner of the eyes and top of the cheek and eyebrow. After I finished my makeup, the bruise looked kind of real to me. Just to be clear, I took a picture of my face and sent to my best friend to get confirmed. She was shocked and called me right away and asked me what happened. I explained to her what was going on and she laughed so hard. I believed as verbal and nonverbal matches, complementing, which is one of the nonverbal communication functions, could help me to set more severe situation. James, who is my brother, came home first out of all of my American families. He approached me immediately without a doubt. His face turned gray when he saw my face and spoke with a serious face, “What happened to you?”. I evaded answering and hesitated for a second. At first, he pressured me to give him an answer as shaking me by the shoulder. In addition, he checked my body that I do have extra wound or bruise. After few minutes, he stared me with the apprehensive look and tried to treat me a little bit careful than usual. He made me sit on the couch and checked my cheek one more time. His reach space to me was really close and his action space was kind of upper section, I think the reason why his action space was higher was his tension was higher than usual and he did not know what to do first. He was holding his head to figure out what he had to do first. I was very touched by his reaction because I did not know that he concerns me that much.
