Women demanded their right for employers to make room for them in the workplace, and not just in stereotypical 'women’s work ' fields. For the first time, women were working in factories and in offices. Yet, still today, even though women make up a significant demographic of the work force, problematic behavior such as sexual harassment, discrimination, and even termination still runs rampant. Because nonverbal communication is often employed to prevent outright rejection and embarrassment, most of this harassment goes uninvestigated and unmitigated. The fact is that nonverbal communication affects the recipient on an a number of different levels and can be more influential than verbal communication. With the new rise of fourth wave feminism, more demands for social justice and equality have focused on 'men’s instinctive behavior, ' the apparent drive for obtrusive and invasive contact with women as a means to gain power over them. While buzzwords such as 'rape, ' 'objectification, ' and 'oppression ' are used ad nauseum, the issues they address are both real and unacceptable. Female soldiers are more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by the enemy. Most sexual harassment complaints are made by women against men.
