Nonverbal Behaviors In American Culture

A nonverbal behavior that is considered appropriate in American culture would be eye contact. The rule or expectation of eye contact in America is to always look a person in their eyes when you’re either speaking or listening to them. When a person eye contact isn’t direct it makes them seem less interested or even deceiving. To show respect to the person that you’re either speaking or listening to you should have consistent and good eye contact. When communicating with others we must be not only knowledgeable in our verbal communication skills but also be mindful of our nonverbal communication skills.
