Nonprofit Group Ethical Issues

I appreciate your observation on this subject. You have raised some crucial ethical concerns such as looking at the self-interest as opposed to the target audience. Recently I was involved in a non-profit group, and we were faced with a very unethical issue. We were tasked to collaborate with another nonprofit group to care for the Haitian refugees post the earthquakes. After a year of the program, we were to conduct an evaluation and report whether the refugees were ready to return home, or should they be granted TPS based on humanitarian issues. The catch was if we decide that the immigrant return home, then there will be a generous lump sum of money given to both organizations to ensure a smooth return. The other organization which is a well-known organization wrote a report indicating that the refugees would be better off if they were sent …show more content…
It was unbelievable to understand that they could have made such unfair, cruel statement. The refugees were transported to Tampa General Hospital because they were severely injured and underwent many amputations. They developed many complications, and in need of continuous care and physical therapy. They were wheelchair dependents learning how to survive with their current physical state. Our group decided against their proposal to the point we were forced to involve the Tampa Tribune News. Understand, this was not an immigration issue. Instead, this was a humanitarian issue and a public safety issue. According to Sutherland, Kemp & Studdet, (2016), the community should not be exposed to unsafe practice because unsafe practice such as non-meaningful contribution will not protect the public instead it will compromise the community (p. 456). With that said, we learned later that the real reason the other organization wanted to send then refugees back to Haiti was that they had a better personal plan for the lump

The team’s members come from Afghanistan, Sudan, Burundi, Liberia, Bosnia, Congo, and other countries – over a dozen in total. Being a refugee means that one never really feels like one fits in, like one belongs, in the locale where one lives. One faces the twin pressures of staying true to one’s ethnic identity, or roots, while simultaneously assimilating the norms and customs of the native people. On top of that, the refugees in Clarkston were facing the economic burden of being in debt for the plane ride from their war-torn or otherwise intolerable country of origin and of having to quickly find a means of supporting themselves financially – receiving only three months of financial support to cover their expenses upon arrival in the U.S. In short, refugees in Clarkston felt alone and…

By: Omega-Staff Writers OMEGA SUPPORTS EXTENSION OF TPS FOR HAITIANS Washington, DC - In a matter of weeks, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) extended to some 50,000 Haitians living in the United States will expire and unless extended most of them will be deported to an uncertain future in a country still dealing with the aftermath of natural disasters. After the devastating earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince on January 12, 2010, the Obama administration granted Temporary Protected Status to Haitian immigrants who were already in the United States. This protected status protects them from deportation. The decision of whether to extend TPS depends on one very important factor, and that is whether conditions in the immigrant’s home country have improved that upon return they will not face inhuman treatment.…

Being an owner of my own nonprofit organization; I know the importance of working hard for demands maintaining an organization. It is not easy and in fact it is hard but if you believe in your craft it is doable. There is a lot in going to a nonprofit organization, the key word is “nonprofit”; so you would have to go above your jurisdiction of work and raise money for you cause on your own. Depending on your organization you will need three major components to build your nonprofit organization; you will need to raise money and ask for donations for your cause, make sure you are licensed in the state and advertise your organization. Collecting and accepting donations is also a great asset because people do not always have money to give, but…

By denying the refugees of the St. Louis entry, America hid behind the veil of national borders to avoid doing what was right; only when it set aside excuses could it act in accord with simple morality. America must always be committed to the spirit which animated it during the Second World War, must always serve as the final guarantor of human rights for all, their national identity or distance from our own shores irrelevant. For anything less would be a betrayal of the republic at its best and of the country’s finest traditions. Justice, liberty, and equality before the law are the core of the American ethos, and to allow them to be denied to anyone, in any nation, runs counter to all that Americans…

It is imperative that we demand that elected officials take steps to respect and protect individuals who become refugees, while also making changes to old immigration policies that have proven to be ineffective. Why is it that Haiti, just like Cuba was politically unstable, endured economic hardships due to the U.S.—imposed embargo, experienced one of the worst natural disasters of our time, and yet can’t benefit from U.S. immigration policies and/or foreign policies that contribute to helping it’s people? It makes you question if there is any innate ethnic and/or racial bigotry rooted into the United States’ immigration…

Many of the physical challenges refugees face occur during their escape from their home country, and on the journey to a safer place. These obstacles more often than not are life threatening, and largely unsafe. Letting these people into America offers them a fresh start and a new chance of a safe home for them and their families. In the article “Some Governors Exaggerate Terror Threat By Making U.S. Seem Weak” states, “The refugee screening process in the U.S., however, is extremely difficult to get through. Most refugees stay in temporary camps for months to years while their personal stories are evaluated and checked. About half of these refugees are children, another quarter are elderly. Almost all of the adults are either mothers or couples coming with children.”…

Unfortunately, refugees are greatly affected by America’s illogical vetting system. How little it means, when it’s a little too late. Those who manage to be admitted into the U.S. do not face an easy transition. This is contrary to the falsehood that refugees will deplete American resources. It’s impossible to ignore the reality that refugees are not treated as humans.…

Knowing firsthand the economic struggles many faces in the Bronx, in particular, children, a group from different community boards in the Bronx and myself came together and formed the nonprofit organization called Community Boards Athletic Leadership League (CBALL). CBALL was created to keep children off the streets, mold community leaders, expose children to college and job development. Grant Proposal: Refugee Health Care Matters The organization, Refugee Health Care Matters (RHCM) sole purpose is to educate and assist refugees to the United States (US) in obtaining adequate and affordable health care. RHCM began in 2016 after the need for education and assistance in the area of health care became known through research. When refugees come to the US, they are sponsored through various organizations that are responsible for finding furnished housing, providing education in the English language, job interviewing, finances, transportation, mental health, and health care. These organizations are stretched thin due to limited resources, limited staff, and the need to rely on volunteers and donations to keep the organizations mandates going.…
