The administration of medications as a nurse is one of many skills a professional nurse, recent graduate nurse, and even a nursing student should take seriously and be proficient in practicing. Medication errors are common in many of the healthcare settings around the world, the causes may be different in each facility, with deviation from the protocol being one cause (Gill, F., Corkish, V., Roberston, J., Samson, J., & Stewart, D., 2012). As future nurses, we as students need to recognize the need to address medication error and the noncompliance of medication and administration protocol and its ability to hinder our practice and our patients.

When multiple patients in a hospital or rehabilitation facility want something for their pain or headache, or it’s 0800 and each patient needs to have had their medications administered you automatically think of the nurse being the healthcare professional held with the responsibility of performing such task. Having knowledge of the proper protocol to follow when performing this task is essential. Knowing the Rights of Medication which stated by (Taylor, 2015) are
