Maj McGuire’s claim is not much of an argument that answers his research question. His claim is more of a restatement of the question; the EO experience and how it can better benefit the Air Force. Possibly, the claim could be stronger, if stated, the Air Force needs to take full advantage of the skills and experience gained by becoming an EO. However, his reason does support the need for better EO utilization with current reductions and need for presence overseas.…
The United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence Noncommissioned Officers Academy (NCOA) is an organization founded with standards, and staffed highly skilled NCOs. The NCOA is composed of dedicated personnel with many strengths, but its NCOs are human and therefore the organization is not perfect. The greatest strength of the Academy is the constant effort to improve training, which ironically leads to one of its greatest weakness. That weakness is communication throughout the execution of the improved training throughout each class.…
I want to take the time to establish my philosophy on expectations of this S1 shop while I’m the Noncommissioned Officer In Charge (NCOIC). This philosophy establishes an effective and comfortable work environment not only for the Soldiers assigned to work in the S1, but also the Soldiers of which we serve—our customers. My philosophy consists of the following: a. Trust: We must trust in our chain of command. I must earn your trust by being as transparent as possible and by handling all situations at the lowest appropriate level. You must earn my trust by using your chain of command and allow me the opportunity to handle all situations at my level; only seeking higher authority if necessary.…
Even when I’m wrong I’m usually right. At least that is how I like to think of it but the truth is I am headstrong. I don’t give up and I’ll keep persisting to get what I want. Though it hasn’t always been helpful, but, yet being so stubborn has lead me to work hard to to achieve my goals. To say I’m as stubborn as a mule would be an understatement.…
“You will miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut” was once said by notorious author Dr. Seuss. I believe that if I would not have volunteered to be Mrs. Little’s cadet teacher I would not have opened my eyes to the education pathway. Though it may not be a perfect fit for me it is definitely one I should consider. I learned a lot from m experienced and I enjoyed working with students. I liked being able to help them understand the relationships that occur in science.…
Warrant Officers within Special Forces are looked to for their high level of experience by commanders and Sergeants Major alike. More often than not, within our formation, warrant officers are viewed and employed by commanders and sergeants Major as part of the command team. Company and Battalion Warrant Officers should absolutely be part of the command team because they already are! Time spent as both a company and battalion operations warrant officers, in conjunction with the nominative process of selection, is what prepares an individual for the CCWO position. Special Forces Warrant Officers do not serve for the prestige of a title such as “Command Chief Warrant Officer” but they are undeniably part of the command team.…
There are multiple individuals and institutions that advise the president. One would be the vice president. The vice president presides over the senate proceedings. They also have the power to cast votes in the senate if there is a tie needed to break it. They have other formal jobs like becoming president if the current president dies, becomes incapacitated, resigns, or if they are impeached.…
Officer Candidate School Officer Candidate School (OCS) is The War Series’s main training academy for potential and future Officers. The school is generally opened to qualified NCOs. Candidates who complete the bare min 3-6 month length and even longer in some cases are formally commissioned into The War Series as Officers and assume the ability to command Marines. Officers are not a simple role. The men and women you lead will count on you to make the right decisions and plans when the going gets tough.…
Junior enlisted Soldiers have not obtained the level of experience and expertise to hold a leadership role. The absence of these key attributes in junior enlisted Soldiers is what prevents them from meeting the definition of professionals. Even though not all members of the Army can be considered professionals, there is still the potential to become professionals therefore the Army is still a profession. It is the duty of Officers, Warrant Officers and NCOs as stewards of the profession to develop Soldiers into professionals as well as further professionally develop junior leaders. “Stewardship is the responsibility of Army professionals to strengthen the Army as a profession”.…
Everyone has dreams. Dreams for fame, riches, or even to change the world. If you look around, at one point everything was a dream that someone eventually accomplished. During my time of enlistment, it has become apparent that my dream is to become an Army Officer. The responsibilities entrusted with Officership is constructed with Competence, Conduct, Commitment, and Expertise.…
General (Retired) Colin Powell has stated that he believes a good leader has the quality to make decisions that everyone can understand. This ability to make tough decisions where their intent and impact can be understood through out a command is one of the key pieces to being an effective leader. I expect for a senior Warrant Officer to articulately express their intent in a manner that can respected by the highest reaching Field Grade Officer and still understood by the lowest ranking person that most execute their order. b. Another element of leadership that is discussed by General (Retired) Colin Powell is where he states that “Effective leaders are made, not born”.…
Challenge of Command Summaries Chapter 1: Chapter 1 of Nye’s book “The Challenge of Command” begins with an explanation that this is an important book for specialists and junior officers to read so that they may thoroughly understand the challenges that are faced by positions of command. Nye emphasizes the importance of continuation of learning, and laments that with many soldiers learning ceases at a certain point in their career. Nye criticizes the mental process of certain aspects of training, and argues that the current emphasis is on what officer does, while it should be what officer should be. Nye goes on to explain some if the motivational theory propositions, some supported by authors, while others, by social scientists. He is also…
The most important role in leadership is a noncommissioned officer. Noncommissioned officer or should we say “NCO” has been a very important factor in the United States Army, for a very long time and is known to be the back bone of the Army. Respecting the noncommissioned officer in the army is critical. They have been carefully selected to train and guide soldiers to the right path. A noncommissioned officer has mastered all the basic soldier skills they have earned their respect by serving in the United States Army and providing outstanding performance and everything that they do which is why everyone should show respect.…
No one learns to fire a rifle without and NCO. Basic training and certain elements of the OCS are taught by NCO's. Without respect to NCO's, you lose a lot that deals with the basic fundamentals of military order and discipline. Soldiers think that they have a right to respect when they join the Army, and they do, but they often times forget that the NCO's who are there to lead them have earned theirs. They have been there and done…
The Seven Army Values, a motto taught to us as a moral guideline come into effect constantly, but through years of training and self-development, our professional skills increase our abilities to demonstrate Leadership and Resilience which is a huge asset in the Army Profession. Being a Leader in the Army Profession of Arms is very important and rewarding. As a NON-Commissioned Officer I know we provide tools and services to everyone, and it 's fulfilling to know that doing things such as sacrificing some personal time to listen to an issue, running a 5k for a cause, and other types of community service are beneficial to morale and are good ways to build spirit de corps and strengthen our bonds with the people we serve. We also have to constantly be mindful of our surrounding because people have a tendency to remember the negative, and for this reason it is crucial for an NON Commissioned officers to be vigilant and portray a professional appearance and attitude to everyone even though we are not always…
