The sergeant must be unquestionably competent in order to carry out the mission correctly, accomplish each task and care for assigned soldiers. I believe that before you become a sergeant, you must already have the abilities and qualities of a sergeant. Just as you are a sergeant, you must practice or conduct yourself as if you are a staff sergeant. So on and so forth.
Training the Soldiers is our main focus. Working with them side by side, giving them and showing them the standards that need to be met. Knowing your Soldiers weaknesses and strengths are part of mentorship. How well you train your Soldier(s) determines the shape of how well they become as leaders.
