.A major difference between Non-Western and European is the different beliefs in religion; this caused a difference in art through its form and purpose. The Western emphasized in figurative arts through their belief in God, whereas Non-Western doesn't seem express much figurative art because of their certain beliefs. The artworks, The Arnolfini Portrait and Paul Preaching at Athens, on page 288-289 portrays to European's religious belief. In many Non-Western art, the focus is on the importance of the family and the society; they also linked spiritual and secular daily life values. A Non-Western example of the importance of family is shown through the architecture, Villa Rotonda, on page 291, and the importance of society is expressed in the artwork, Feast in the House of Levi, on page 291. Western European culture considers the importance of the artist as an individual, which can be seen in the more self-expressive nature of many Western art.
