Non Verbally Communicated Rule Essay

It is universally known that when entering an area through a confided space, like a door or a gateway that you wait for the people who are coming out to exit before you begin your entrance. When entering a train for example, or an elevator it makes logical sense to allow any person to exit and create space within before you entre and allow new people to fill this space. This concept is known as a non-verbally communicated rule, there is no book or law that states this is the right behaviour, but because of logical thinking and politeness, most people tend to stick to this rule. There are no restrictions and consequences that you face when breaking a rule like this, but it is out of common courtesy that the people abide by them. Not being able to understand the language in which they were complaining, gave me the opportunity to analyse their speech through vocalics such as pitch, rate and volume. The tone of their voice and the quiet muttering of complaints, showed more annoyance than anger, no voices were raised, possibly due to the magnitude of the rule breaking, breaking such a social unspoken rule is rude and disrespectful, but not to an extend to cause anger to strangers to whom I have no relation to. If the same inappropriate behaviour was repeated several times towards the same subject, one might begin to get more frustrated (angry) and feel obliged to make direct verbal contact, after knowing that it is a common occurrence.
