The person on the receiving end of our body language will have an impression that is often difficult to describe. In fact those things can serve to turn a listener off. They feel patronised, inadequate and frustrated if someone is using fancy language. The point of communicating is to convey information, to share with others and to have a two-way exchange. Communicating, to whatever size of audience, requires the speaker to encourage people to listen, engage, take on board what is being said and process that information with a view to doing something with it. People will only listen if they feel that the speaker is talking to them, interested in them, is speaking their language.…

The nonverbal signals can produce a sense of interest or trust or they could send signals of disinterest, distrust, or even confusion. When people mention the conversational clichés where the atmosphere can be cut with a knife, there is an uncomfortable silence or looks could kill, nonverbal communication is to blame. A comforting lull in conversation, excitement in the air or love at first sight prove nonverbal cues are both negative and positive. Situations like these are exceptional, but nonverbal communication as a whole makes up the majority of the message conveyed between two…

This can happen if there is a lack of rapport between the interviewer and respondent, if the respondent feels intimidated, or attacked, or if the respondent is uncomfortable talking frankly with the interviewer. Should the interviewer succumb to stereotyping the respondent, this also raises the probability of error through bias. The interviewer’s ability to answer clarify any respondent questions or probe deeper for answers may improve the answer quality, but any lack of concentration or administrative errors have the potential to skew the data. Using more than one interviewer can also influence the data. Studies show that responses collected by a single interviewer tend to be more similar that responses collected by multiple interviewers (West, Kreuter, & Jaenichen,…

Verbal and non-verbal communication can convey important information about what is happening inside a person, particularly of their emotional state. If there is a mis-match between the verbal and non-verbal elements, it has been shown that people will generally read the non-verbal behaviour, and make their judgements/course of actions from that. I have also heard it said that in an argument it is never about the actual content of the words that causes the contention, but the emotions that are carried along with it. Communication can be improved if we are aware of what we may be conveying with our body language, and take this into consideration when we choose our verbal communication. If there is no mismatch between the verbal and non-verbal, others are more likely to pick up on our sincerity, our emotional congruency.…

I definitely think when different personalities communicate, they are aware of the other person and they try not to say something that could cause a contrary response. Moreover, instead of just thinking about ourselves, we need to be more respectful of other personality types and their opinions. Most often, people are not just trying to get you angry, but it is because they communicate differently than you, and sometimes you just need to try and understand and see things from their point of view. When you learn to recognize what personality type you are, you are much more capable of understanding yourself and what communication styles works best for you versus the ones that is less practical. Furthermore, when we understand the personalities of people around us, we can complete certain tasks faster, establish stronger friendships, and form a more welcoming…
