The movie I decided to analyze for this assignment is Blood In Blood Out. This movie is about two Latino brothers, Cruz and Paco, and their cousin, Miclo, who is half white and half Latino, and how their lives are affected by the pact they have to always stick together and fight for each other. Later on in the movie the guys are separated after many conflicts they encountered between each other and with others. Cruz turns to drugs, Paco becomes a detective, and Miclo goes to prison. There are many different forms of communication and relationships between the characters, and there is also a great amount of conflict, which is why I chose this movie.…

The literature selected focuses on the differences between the genders in nonverbal communication. There are several nonverbal functions and forms that could be discussed, but this literature review primarily focuses on the points that are relevant to the analysis. The section concludes with several key criteria points that the analysis will be based off of. Julia T. Wood explains that there are three main functions to nonverbal communication: To supplement verbal communication, to regulate interaction, and to “convey the bulk of the relationship level of meaning” (2014). While the first function will not apply to the analysis in this paper, the two others will.…

Non-verbal communication is a meaningful part of our world. In our society, we have come to accept our non-verbal communication rules as normal and accepted by most. I began to wonder what would happen when breaking a non-verbal communication rule because so many people are used to the non-verbal communication rules in society, thus some people might get upset or react. First, I was curious to see what happens when you break a non-verbal communication rule because people are used to the non-verbal rules that are accepted in society.…

In this article, we see that the author uses the word body, repetitively to outline a symbolism with inequality in a patriarchal society. “This state of conscious and permanent visibility is a sign that the tight, disciplinary control of the body has gotten a hold on the mind as well”. In this quote, I analyzed that the body, therefore, being an object is controlled from all its components as well as their spiritual mind. Which can be connected to the idea that women in a patriarchal society, not just use their body, such as their hands or leg, but they also uses their mind and emotions to work hard and to survive in a gender inequality work force. “We are born male or female, but not masculine or feminine”.…

Living in America, the cultural melting pot, you become exposed to various cultures and ethnic groups. America has races and ethnic groups ranging from Hispanics to Italians to Haitians to Asians. Each of these ethnic groups all have their distinct differences, but they all contribute to the cultural melting pot idea that America attempts to uphold. With all of the diverse ethnic groups in America, encounters with different ethnic groups are inevitable. While I have not been heavily exposed to the Asian culture, I have had my various encounters with the culture itself.…

When someone finds out my parents are Deaf, they often ask me “what is that like.” This is the worst question because there is no proper answer for it. My stock answer has always been; “well, it is just like growing up in a Spanish, or Polish speaking home.” My answer only tackles the language aspect of their question, which always seems to satisfy. But the difference here is that a Spanish child can identify with their parents culture, where as I cannot.…

It does not matter what kind of ethnicity you are, or how you were brought up, everyone is truly fixed in their own culture. Culture is defined as a lifestyle of a group of people, the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept and are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next. There are some foreign students here in American schools. And many foreign students do not interact with the foreign students due to the culture difference. Most of the foreign students always wish that Americans culture could adjust their culture.…

Another difference I have observed is from comparing my Korean concept of face to the American concept of face. In my home, my parents yell and judge me if I do not be considerate of my family’s actions such as assuming certain situations can go ignored. In my household if you ignore something that you know will be done by the next person that sees it you would get criticized harshly in front of people. Also another personal example of eastern Asian face concept is when I am asked to do something and I do not know…

As a fairly passive person, I knew that I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and do something I would not normally do; my roommate and I went to Target on a Saturday morning, before it got too crowded, and I decided to intrude on employees and other shopper’s personal space. I went up to the first employee, a young man in his late teens/20s, and asked him where the notebooks were, while standing maybe a half of a foot away from him, making complete eye contact. Immediately he started to back up and was a bit flustered before telling me where to look. According to my roommate who was watching from a distance, he also somewhat raised his hands from his sides, like he was ready to push me away. Another employee, an older woman, took a few steps…
