Non-suicidal self-injury happens when a person intentionally harms themselves by damaging and mutilating skin by cutting, burning, or hitting, etc., without the purpose of committing suicide. Adding NSSI officially to DSM-5 as a diagnosis could improve the chances of how treatment and management provided when NSSI is present without any other conditions.
