Non-social play in children has been regarded as predisposition to psychosocial risks that precipitates maladaptive reticent behaviours. The lack of social interaction during play hinders social learning such as perception of social and emotional cues and inhibition of impulses. Furthermore, the different forms of non-social play expresses different psychological inadequacies that alludes to different underlying problems in the child that is highly influenced by gender differences (Leonard, 2002). A child involved in solitary passive play , is seen to possess skills necessary for social interaction but consciously chooses not to participate in social play (Rubin, 1982).
