As we have discovered, the Blue Catfish is very harmful to our environment. Its the “greatest environmental threats the Chesapeake Bay has ever faced,” said Tim Sughrue, a former waterman and biologist (roanoke). The Blue Catfish represent 75% of the fish biomass and eat up every fish in the Chesapeake (fisheries.noaa). If this continues for any longer, the fish in the Chesapeake will be dead.
Thus concluding, native species are evolved to live in a certain area best suitable for them. Over time, natural selection also takes place, and this results in the “best” meaning the organisms that are the fittest to live for longer, and most likely to reproduce surviving (survival of the fittest). But when non native invasive species are introduced to such an area, they end up destroying the environment and that ecosystem. They eat any fish or plant from that area, hence not keeping biodiversity, and kill species and their habitats. These species dominate the sea, and have very high biotic potential- conditions in which species survive the best and increase in number, for eg: less predators, lots of food, lack of disease or any other risk. This causes the environmental resistance of native species to decrease, and they begin to reduce in number. Native species also reach their range of tolerance in terms of predators. Thus we can see a predator-prey relationship disruption here which results in extinction of one species, and grow of other-
