One of Michigan’s state lawmakers introduced a bill to legalize recreational adult use marijuana in the state. The bill’s sponsor says the law will free up police to focus on violent and property crimes.
State Sen. Coleman A. Young II, D-Detroit introduced what is being called the “non-medical marijuana code.” Senate Bill 813 proposes to regulate and tax marijuana.
If the measure is approved Michigan would join Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and District of Columbia in allowing recreational adult use marijuana. The law would regulate cultivation facilities, dispensaries, and “marijuana lounges” where people could partake of the product.
