Non Dominate Hand Experiment

For this lab report the class goal was to figure out if our dominate hand is stronger than our non-dominate hand. There are a few factors that come into play when measuring this, the first thing that is important to know is what a muscle is and how it works. According to Medicine net a muscle is “the tissue of the body which primarily functions as a source of power.” A muscle is also used for movement and keeping body parts in their right positions. There are 3 different types of muscles, Skeletal which is generally the muscle connected to the bone. Then there is the Cardiac which is only found in the heart, it is responsible for pumping blood through the body. There are so many muscles involved in the movement done in the grip strength test to most important ones are the flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor digitorum profondus and the flexor policus longus which are all main muscle in the forearm. according to athleticquickness.com. Although the class was just using the experiment to learn how skeletal muscles work and what a grip strength test, there is some clinical benefits to doing a grip strength test. The most common thing it is used for is to see if someone has arthritis. When testing for arthritis the doctor is looking for how strong the patients hand is, this is done by running a grip strength test and then comparing the numbers to the average numbers for the patients age and sex. When the class ran the grip strength test they had to take a few things into consideration: age, gender, and dominate hand vs non-dominate hand. My hypotheses is that men will have a stranger grip strength compared to woman no matter what their age is.
