Part I: Generally, the uses of non-diegetic popular songs make up the majority part of film music in this film. I think those pop songs serve more like foreground music and instrumental ones is more likely to be background music. There are fewer time that non-diegetic instrumental music can be found in this film; however, there are some diegetic instrumental music which occurs at the time when Ben is at the bar of the hotel, also when Ben and Elaine at the bar, there are some diegetic music involve into those scenes. Sometimes, this song is with lyrics version but sometimes it is only the instrumental part. Since during this part of the film, it focuses on the love between Ben and Elaine, and the lyrics is also related with love theme. Based on the lyrics, it is about old lovers, and it goes along with the storyline because Elaine and Ben had crushes on each other before but because of Ben’s relationship with Mrs. Robinson, their love is full of troubles and seems like Ben is impossible to earn her back. The repetition of this song actually reinforces the relationship between Ben and Elaine and it shows the development of their complicated relationship. It shows the changes between them because at first Elaine still has a negative feeling toward Ben but at the end of this part, her attitude changed and every time when there is a progress of their relation, this song comes out and it serves as a leitmotif song for their love …show more content…
Also, since this piece is more like a folk song, it is more like minor key and has the sadness and uncertain about loves’ feelings. There are twice that this piece appears as instrumental music and it fits the scene really well. When Elaine met Carl at the Zoo and they left together, the song appears again, and this time it is with lyrics. When the camera shooting is back to Ben, the music fits the scene so well because it is obvious that he cannot earn her back and every thing he did is useless since she has already had another boyfriend. The song captures the somber feeling of Ben and it conveys this feeling to the audience at the same

Although many of the songs on which Starr was the lead vocal were written for him, he did contribute two compositions to the Beatles canon: “Don’t Pass Me By” and “An Octopuses Garden.” In his first compositions, Starr shows complete understanding and acceptance of his persona. Starr’s first contribution to the Beatles canon, “Don’t Pass Me By,” came six years after the release of the Beatles first single and was worked on, by its composer, for five years (Macdonald 286). The song is a “country-and-western style embellished with bluegrass violin”…

Representations of “The Great Gatsby” The films “The great Gatsby” as well as “Midnight in Paris” were directed to portray the vibe the directors wanted to carry all throughout the films with characters and music, taking inspiration from the novel “The great Gatsby”. The “midnight in Paris” took inspiration from the great Gatsby to help bring the film alive as well as the characters which were involved in it. Both films as well as the novel portrayed this loving couple that did anything to be together but at the end of the day that wasn’t enough to be together after all. There was always a character in the story that got in the way of their happiness.…

My Personal Playlist and Transcendental Justification Icarus, Bastille, 2011 I personally love this song simply because of the Greek Mythology reference, as well as the really cool entrance; and I think that transcendentalists might like it as well. My interpretation of this song is that it is talking about how young people search for happiness by doing dangerous and risky things (i.e. Icarus got excited and flew up towards the sun), that may lead to them getting hurt (the sun melting the wax off of Icarus’s wings and him falling to his death. Transcendentalists would like this interpretation, because they believe that although people try to bring happiness into their lives by relying on material things (ex. Drugs and Alcohol), this will never…

Music that the characters can hear plays important roles on a few separate occasions. It sets the initial mood of the cafe which is light and happy and jazzy. Then, when Ilsa comes, she asks the pianist to play “As Time Goes By,” which is the song that she and Rick were both very attached to when they were in love together in France - this song becomes very important to the theme because it not only makes them remember their relationship, but it represents their relationship. Music in the cafe also plays an important role in the theme of the movie when Major Strasser and the other Nazis are singing a song about Germany, and Victor Lazlo asks the band to play a song about the French and gets more people in the cafe to sing and overpower the Germans’ singing. This happening convinces Major Strasser that Lazlo is a dangerous character and can’t be let out of Casablanca but neither can he stay there - it makes Casablanca a dangerous place for both Victor Lazlo and Ilsa Lund.…

There were no evident leitmotifs that could be identified in the movie, however, Newman used various themes to portray different scenes. For example, at 00:39:03 when Randall comes out, his darker theme were played alongside to immediately make him the antagonist. Furthermore, at 00:33:41 Newman used Boo and Sulley’s theme to represent the bonding moments between our two protagonists. An example of a stinger when Randall suddenly kicked Sulley at 01:11:39, it was created by cellos playing a low note suddenly.…
