Personal Narrative: A Real Good Life

Improved Essays
Before anyone is born, nobody can pick the day they are going to be born. Nobody can pick if they want to be a boy or a girl. Therefore I can say nobody can pick the lives that they are going to be born into. In a perfect world, when anyone is born you’d be born in royalty that also consisted with a mother and a father. When I say royalty I mean a really good life, whether it be a super rich family, or by famous celebrities. It would be the life to be born into something like that. The point I’m trying to make is sometimes in hope to be born in “royalty” that most likely will not happen, instead you’d end up on the opposite spectrum like I did. Nothing I can do about it, that’s just how life is sometimes. Which is probably why life also made my dad walk out of my life when I was born. Growing up I always had this strange love for my dad, …show more content…
I saw my father as someone who wasn’t truthful about anything, didn’t care about the people who actually cared about him, and had nothing going for himself. It was an eye-opener, but Ill never be mad at him for it no matter what. I take it as a lesson, that’s how he wants to live life, so I’m going to be the opposite of him. I’ll strive harder to achieve that because seeing how his actions affected me, mixed with the fear of being like him makes me work a little harder then I would without that because I never want to be like that. Many people have their own definition of success, but my definition is being better then my father, because of him I feel like I have grown the skills of focused and determination, because I’m not going to stop until I reach that success point. So back to the beginning, actually I would pick the family I was born into over royalty any day, because although that route would be nice, I feel I’d lack the skills of focus and determination that I have grown

In society, status and class are two of the most significant social forces that contribute to one’s own image. Not being born in the right social ranking can make life further difficult .This can inhibit the social mobility of an individual if they decide to move up a rung in the ladder of society. This social inequality plays a role in society that few people are able to manage .The social constructs of inequality are far reaching, and it even claws its way into the family. According to Dalton Conley, author of The Pecking Order, “The truth is that inequality starts at home” (pg. 586).…

At the same time, people pay less attention to the effect of their family on their class. When we are born, we are dealt a hand of cards that can vary greatly from person to person. Because of this, some people already start off with unearned advantages over other people, making it easier for them to reach the top and be successful. On the other hand, the only way the less fortunate people can reach the top and be successful is if they can skillfully and wisely play out the hand they were dealt.…

Every Life Matters I really only started understanding the meaning of abortion once one of my mom’s friends had one. Before that I had very little knowledge about abortion. My parents have always taught me to stand by what I believe and that others may have different beliefs. They always told me that I would meet people that would disagree with me and what I believe not only when it came to these kind of topics but many other things as well. Being told that, they told me to always respect people’s beliefs and their points of view because everyone has the right to stand by what they believe, just like I do.…

Depending on your rank in society told you how you would have to live. If the parents were poor, those children were more than likely to be in the same situation as them. If you were middle class, you’d take over the family business. However, you did have a little more freedom in how you wanted to go about your life because the importance of where you came from didn’t matter. On the contrary, being of high wealth and of great descendants, the choice wasn’t in your favor.…

It is evident that the later generations generally live life easier than the generations that came before they did. Older generations had to world twice as hard to get to where they are today financially and that financial success gives younger generations a life of privilege. In my own family, both my parents were first-generation immigrants who had to build their lives all over again so that I could enjoy not necessarily a privileged life, but an easier one. This theme is also evident in actor and comedian Aziz Ansari’s Netflix original Master of None, where he dedicates an episode of this show to the parents. This episode outlines the stark differences between the lives of main character Dev and his father.…

“Congratulations!!” read one post on a friend’s Facebook wall, the day after she landed an office job in her field. “So amazing!” read another. “Are you ready for your big-girl job?” asked a third well-wisher, accompanied by a GIF of Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope. “I can’t believe I finally have a real job” was the text she sent me a few days later, from the comfort of her desk, where she had been hired to do operations work for an organization she had once, a few years prior, interned for.…

However, on the contrary, high-class family members are often thrown into positions of power without any qualifications. These levels of social injustice make it nearly impossible for someone other than a member of a noble family to rise to power. However, the low-born members of society are not meant to realize this, thus creating a false social conscious among the society. This means that the large majority of society is living day-to-day while ignoring these social issues, possibly…

My whole life I’ve been a little different. From the clothes I wear and the way I present myself, to the way I look at the world, I’ve always been somewhat peculiar.
