Theories are thrown around from religion to religion on whether or not the “Great Flood” actually existed, did it? The “Great Flood” is told as a myth of wiping out civilizations over 8,000 years ago, only leaving a few humans who were granted life by the gods. For example, in the Hebrew Legend of Genesis, the Gods warn Noah that a deadly flood is going to occur (Millman). He has to build a big boat, and told to save one male and female of all animals, plus save his family. Another myth that talks about a “Great Flood” is a Babylonian tale Epic of Gilgamesh. In this tale, Utnapishtim became immortal by the God’s by building a boat to survive the “Great Flood” (Lyons). “When the European glaciers melted, the Mediterranean Sea overflowed with the force 200 times greater than that of Niagara Falls, converting the Black Sea from fresh to saltwater, meanwhile flooding the area”(Trimarchi). An Ark made in 8,000 B.C. could not survive the force of Niagara Falls due to a lack of materials and infrastructure, never mind 200 times that force. Another theory that has been tossed around is that of a meteor hitting the Earth, causing 600-foot high tsunami waves (Trimarchi). To believe a boat built in 16,000 B.C. can withstand the power and force of waves of this magnitude is preposterous. Also, from the story of Epic of Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim builds a boat to save the animals, just like Noah, one of each sex because of the God warned “flood”. He two survives the flood and kept civilization moving forward from there. The stories are very similar, and this again proves that the people could not survive the forces that are theorized above. A boat in the 21st Century could not withstand waves of 600 feet, and the force 200x greater than Niagara Falls, never mind one made of tar and
