No Standardized Testing In Schools

Did you know the average seventh grader spends about 23.3 hours just taking standardized tests? This is, infact, true. Most seventh graders do spend 23.3 hours testing, or more! The government should cut down on standardized tests. This is shown in the seventh graders hours alone. Students should have little to no standardized tests. This essay will describe how and why standardized tests should be modified because the tests are low quality, they take away class time, and the tests much pressure adding on to them. First, this paragraph will describe why the tests are low quality. According to educators everywhere, the test are overlapping. This means that the tests cannot help the students learn if the government keeps adding on the same thing each year on the tests. Michael Casserly- the Executive Director of the Council of the Great City Schools- has admitted that the tests are overlapping, due to the fact that the students take tests at the end of the year, and at the end of the course. The testing at both the end of the year and the end of the course is the same time of year. When a course ends, the school year is ending too. There’s so many reasons why standardized testing should be cut short or ended, but there are several reasons that are being repeated. Things such as: Students are spending too much time testing rather than learning something in class, the tests are overlapping one-another, and it’s stressful for the students to take the tests in the first place. The students really aren’t learning anything, due to the fact that all their class time is being wasted to standardized tests. The teachers are only teaching what’s on the test, and not what’s important in real life to help benefit the students.
