Personal Statement: A Career In Internal Medicine

No matter how long I live, I will likely always vividly remember going to the doctor with my father when I would get sick. I will always remember how the doctor could simply touch where I was hurting, give me some medication, often in the derriere, and within a few minutes I was cured. My young perception of doctors was simple: Doctors are magicians who cure the illnesses with magic. I always wondered, “How did the doctors know exactly what to do to me to make me feel better?” It was a question that would fuel my intellectual curiosity towards the “doctor’s magic,” leading me to ask questions regarding these things, and exploration of every textbook related to the human body that I could place my hands on. I have always felt content helping and contributing to the society in every possible way, which led me to volunteer several free health camps in rural areas and school. Recently, I actively volunteered health camps in major earthquake hit areas of Nepal and provided basic medical care and psychological support to the victims. This event made a major impact on my life as I witnessed near to death situation, but despite that I performed my duty and responsibility as a human and a doctor. I intend to pursue a residency in Internal Medicine in the US to acquire best medical knowledge and learn skills in a holistic environment. I have always been keen to meet the challenges required for today’s health care system and update myself with recent advancements in medical field. I am looking forward to enroll in a program with an excellent academic environment that promotes networking with friendly faculties and teamwork. I am hoping to get into a program with diverse patient populations and homely environment that can help me to become a caring and competent
