Texts 1 and 2 represent the contrasting viewpoints of the different bloggers on the no makeup movement. This difference is due to the conflicts in the beliefs and value system of the individuals. Text 3 is the manifesto of the no makeup movement, written by Alicia Keys, the starter of the movement. Text 4 is an infographic done by a cosmetic store, whose purpose is to sell more makeup products. This conflicts with the nature of the no makeup movement. This is because texts serve different interests, in this case from empowering the true self to promoting more sales.

Text 1 is a blog written by a blogger who is against the no makeup movement. She is writing in response to the movement. Being a public blog, the audience is the public who are interested to find out more opinions regarding the movement. The purpose is to oppose to the manifesto of the no makeup movement. In contrast to the previous text, the author supports the no makeup movement. The audience is the visitors to the website. She opposed the idea of expectation of makeup on women, and encouraged the personal happiness of women. Her message is that instead of “unhappily struggling to reach some benchmark set by others and the society”, women should do what they want, with makeup or not, for personal happiness. This promotes the idea of self-love, which is aligned with the manifesto of the no makeup movement.

Text 3 is the manifesto of the movement written by Alicia Keys. The intended audience is the public, from whom she wishes to gain support for the movement. Being the starter of the movement, the purpose of the author is to explain her rationale for doing so. The context is that she was doing a photo-shoot, and realised how empowered and real she felt without makeup, thus she wanted to promote this idea of being free and real.
