No I Do Not Want To Pet Your Dog Manjoo

In the essay “No, I Do Not Want to Pet Your Dog” written by Farhad Manjoo talks about how Manjoo is not a dog person; additionally, he goes into detail about how dogs are a problem in today’s society. A point Manjoo talks about is how dogs rule urban America and he is being serious. Dog owners allow their animals to run rampant and do whatever they want to do. Throughout the essay the problem is mentioned at the real people at fault are the pet owners themselves. As the story progresses the reader understands why (Manjoo) does not like dogs and his reasoning behind it. I agree with (Manjoo) people automatically assume that everybody likes dogs when they see them; meanwhile, people take their dogs out in public and they tend to not think about how other people may feel. If somebody has had a traumatizing experience with dogs and one randomly approaches them, that person would be in a state of panic. I feel as though people have lost the sense of valuing other people’s feelings and opinions. …show more content…
These objections can transfer over to different animals such as: cats. The statistic that (Manjoo) pointed out was that 1000 Americans a day are treated for dog bites; hence, not all dogs are as nice as they are made out to be. Even if the animal’s owner tells you that the dog loves people at any time something could set the dog off (startle them) and cause them to bite a person. The message that (Manjoo) is trying to get across is that dogs should not be welcome in any of the places that they are and not everybody loves dogs. In my opinion (Manjoo) is wanting people to question is it right to let their dogs do whatever they want to and to take

We realized that dogs weren’t just a labor resource; they gave us a companion. Dogs are now trained to help humans with disabilities and to help firefighters and police officers. We don’t think of dogs as luxuries; we see them as part of our families. However, in less developed countries where people can barely provide food for themselves, they might consider dogs as luxuries. Having an extra mouth to feed might not be financially achievable.…

Do you see a piece of property? Do you see a thing that should be abused? Or do you see a human being that cannot talk, is abused, is put through pain for our enjoyment, is treated like a slave, in the eyes of a dog? Next time you see a dog, do not look at it like anything that we treat like a piece of property; look at it like an animal that needs love, care,…

Burstein relates BSL to racial human laws, commenting on the fact that citizens would not stand for similar blatant prejudice against another group of human beings, and he reflects on why this shouldn’t be any different for canines (2004). He thinks that the negative attitudes towards the breeds implicated with BSL are a result of the same type of narrow mindedness that lead to racism (Burstein, 2004). BSL can be considered prejudice for several reasons, notably with its subjective assumptions towards the fact that the specified breeds are the only ones to harbor aggression (Abordo, 2010). Bandow asserts that the anatomical characteristics of a canine breed provide no indication of the behavior of an individual dog and he comments that biting is a instinctual behavior for all dogs…

“86.8 percent of American Pit Bull Terriers have passed their temperament tests” (O’Connor). If this is legitimate, then why are so many people afraid of these affectionate animals? There have been, in some cities, bans put on pit bulls because of a high amount of reports of pit bulls biting people. This reason is not the dogs’ faults. Think about it; who trains these dogs and why are people being bitten?…

The commercial demonstrates the bonds that the woman and her dog have created and the memories they’ve shared. Aside from selling a product, the advertisement is displaying the importance of canines in American society and the strong connection between owners and pets. The persona they’ve created to aid in selling their vehicle reinforces the important role animals play in culture. According to Pamela Ivinski, an independent research assistant, “Dog owners also said they'd be willing to pay almost twice as much in medical fees as cat owners to save a beloved pet ($1183 versus $610). From this, Coren extrapolates that dog owners are more sociable and loving than cat owners, but what's more relevant is that dog owners appear to have more disposable income and a willingness to spend it on services and merchandise related to dogs--or advertised in images that feature dogs” (1).…

As I look around at the world around me, I noticed members of society have begun to become less social and think more about themselves than they do others. Putting our requirements over the necessities of others and have stopped being gallant and kind to those passed on the street, while never delaying to consider how our actions will impact everyone around us. Everything that has begun to dissipate from society and personality traits, despite the fact they may appear insignificant or inconspicuous, has significantly influenced how we think and act towards our surroundings. All the things I neglected to find in today's society, I saw when I looked at my dog, Boomer. Unlike most modern day individuals, Boomer was pleasant to everyone he met.…

A fond family pet and a loyal working dog, the pit bull is a loving animal, known for its loyalty and valor. However, it has recently gotten a bad reputation, namely because of several accidents. In more modern times, pit bulls have been assumed dangerous and vicious. They have been avoided and several laws have been made against them, almost to the point where people are not allowed to keep pit bulls as pets. The truth, though, often is that many of them are affectionate dogs that deserve better treatment than the way they are currently being treated, unlike popular public opinion.…

What my dog has taught me Humans are basically social animals, and in learning to coexist more peacefully, our pets could teach us a thing or two. Humans are sometimes arrogant enough to believe that our lives matter more than others, but in owning a dog it 's clear to see why it doesn 't. I know some people consider their pets as a part of their families. I strongly agree with that stance towards the dog I have in my home. Having been a dog owner since the age of nine, I can claim that a lot of growing and maturing goes on during that timeframe. Pets have this ability to teach people things that even humans cannot.…
