Fraternization is a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ); it is also a General Order and can be “punishable under Article 92, UCMJ.” (Inspector General). If an officer (O1-O9) is caught fraternization he or she will be charged with Officer Unbecoming and receive a Letter of Reprimand.; they will not be allowed to advance to the next pay-grade and they will not be allowed to reenlist. If a Chief Petty Officer (E7-E9) is caught fraternizing he or she will receive the same as an officer except will be charged with Fraternization. If a junior enlisted member (E1-E6) they will be charged with Fraternization, reduced in rank, receive restriction but will be allowed to stay in the military.
