No Country For Old Men Vs Fargo Essay

There are a lot of similarities between “No Country for Old Men” and “Fargo”. The opening scene of NCFOM where Anton Chigurh strangles the cop to death instantly reminded me of when Gaear Grimsrud in Fargo shoots and kills the police officer in the head after only getting stopped for a minor traffic incident. “Money is the root of all evil” is a one of the common themes both “No Country for Old Men” and “Fargo” share. There is also a small time cop whose experience and intelligence pieces together the crime the deranged criminals and the average hardworking Joes have committed. No Country for Old Men could potentially be a sequel to Fargo because of how similar the plot and characters are among the movies; it expands world views from Fargo, and incorporate different themes from Fargo. Both stories start off in remote small town areas ripe for murders are able to kill and hide. In “No Country for Old Men”, the setting is in a USA border town in Texas, surrounded by a treacherous mountain, rivers, and ravines. The Coens creates a Wild West feel in this …show more content…
This quote also perfectly describes the focus shift in Fargo from Jerry acquiring money to questioning Jerry and Grimsrud’s actions. That purpose questions the rules of the universe and direction the United States people are heading. It also answers questions from Fargo that was left unsolved; why was Grimsrud a cruel individual? Because some people are just evil, corrupted individuals that have their own set of rules they play by to achieve goals whether they are sinister and

For decades, popular novels have been published and years later followed with a film. Although the movie tends to portray imagery, the course of events in the book tend to contrast to those of the film. This became abundantly clear when I read the book and watched the movie, The Natural. In both the novel and the film, we learn about the life of a baseball player named Roy Hobbs, who was born with a talent and was given the ability to pursue his goal of life. Although his mindset was determined to break all the records in the game, many obstacles stood in his path ultimately skewing his priorities and driving him towards a path only ending with failure.…

Let us shine a LIGHT...so that AT LAST, ALL THE WORLD CAN SEE!’” (Tuttle 2009). This quote creates a huge change in the main character than we see in the short story “Harrison Bergeron.” In both the short story “Harrison Bergeron” and the movie “2081” there are many similarities and differences.…

Larry Watson’s Montana 1948 and Reginald Rose’s Twelve Angry Men both view society in a negative light that is full of prejudice and injustice. By placing both of these texts in a pessimistic view, readers are able to see that all humans are flawed. Both authors are able show that character’s varied ideologies, mistakes, and traits are a part of human nature. Watson displays these ideas through Wes and Julian whilst Rose mainly shows this through Jurors 3 and 10. As stated by Julian Casablancas, “greed is the inventor of injustice as well as the current enforcer.” This quote is a great reflection of the book No Country for Old Men because of the conflict that occurs between the characters over the greed of money. But the money that the characters deal with is no piggy bank and it would make any man drool over its presence because the bag of cash has millions of dollars in it. One of the characters, Llewelyn Moss comes across this bag and risks his wife’s life and even his own in order to protect it. One of the main themes that is displayed in the novel is greed; in first world countries, it is normal for people to own a lot of things because it is advertised through media and even through each other.…
