No Hip In The Wild
Tren Linsley
Violence and chaos, is used, in conjunction with symbolic aspects, and binary opposition as literary tools, in “No Church In the Wild” to show fundamental problems with gender inequality in society, pointing out the irony that men are the ones with all the power, yet are ones who use it for violence. “No Church In The Wild” in this sense is a very overzealous example of “hipster” counterculture. The video opens with a relatively still shot of a man holding a molotov cocktail on what appears to be a regular city street He then clicks a lighter and ignites it, as soon as he does. The beat starts and the song begins. This is no accident, the way igniting the bomb is a prelude to the chaos and violence, the beat

This is until, the camera again cuts to the image of a snarling german shepherd. Animals “No Church In The Wild” are used as the second major symbol after the statues. Including the dog, we see three examples of animals used symbolically in the video, the first is the dog, which represents violence and power. The dog is however leashed, being controlled by men. It is also worth noting that among the crowd of people, the snarling dog does not appear any more animalistic or chaotic than the humans. Suggesting that men are inherently animalistic and almost primal. The second animal we see is a horse, later in the video a running horse, represents freedom, but again the horse is being controlled by a police officer, this suggests that freedom is controlled by men in the establishment. The third animal is an elephant, appearing at the very end of the song. Elephants represent intelligence and understanding, however once again the elephant is being controlled by men, however unlike the previous two animals, the elephant is fighting its restraints. This suggests that men control information in society, and while they do women will never be able to be fully equal. However the fact that the elephant is fighting its restrains suggest that women in society are successfully pushing back against the

The work that I am analyzing is Bathsheba After the Bath by Jan Steen (1626-1679). I believe the meaning of the painting shows exactly what women had to endure to be presented to a man of high royalty and had no rights in the matter to reject his advances. The gloomy colors in the painting correlates with the emotion that Bathsheba expresses. Examining the painting I found interesting props surrounding Bathsheba and the maidservants. The painting tells the story of how King David sent for Bathsheba.…

In a nation that pledges allegiance to itself under god, religion is bound to become a factor in the politics that govern it. Religion did not start to be integrated into public affairs until the mid 1980s. It was at this time that abortion and other personal issues began to emerge into the political spectrum. By incorporating aspects of the moral being into government decisions, coalitions were formed to unite for certain issues. Due to the increased combination of religion and partisanship, the ideologies of religious politics and political religion became more prominent, as can be seen in the case of abortion described in American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us.…

Lillie, I can completely understand how that could happen in large churches. In the church I grew up in I was very involved and most of the pastors knew me while I was growing up. The church that I go to now is actually alot larger than the one that I grew up in. There are about 4,000 that attend the church that I go to now. Although I really love my church and have found ways to get involved, I still don't know alot of the pastors outside of the areas where I serve and I am not used to that.…

It is easy to believe that attaining peace in this world where violence and wars are so apparent is getting much harder. Perhaps to the point in which it is verging on the impossible. ‘Eve of Destruction’ expresses a strong but heartfelt warning towards how our hypocrisy as a society is edging us closer to our own demise . The writer, P.F Slogan, addresses both the solider and society singing about being on the ‘eve of destruction’. He wrote, “You’re old enough to kill but not for voting”, “you don’t believe in war, then what’s that gun your totin.”…

The song is more like a motivation song that it talks about himself being amazing, having people come to only see him and considering himself a predator. Basically he is at the top that is why he is the only thing he is afraid of. The song starts immediately with the beat that goes throughout the whole song except when they use the sound of an animal and human sounds. Towards the end of the song there seems to be another instrument involved like a piano. The drum is mostly played throughout the song and it’s a fast beat that goes with the words that Kanye is saying.…

The condemned man is reminiscent to a dog in this story as the system he lives by alters him into an animal-like being. The man obeys all he is told, whilst also remaining hostile and territorial. All of these attributes reflect towards that of a dog, thus the reason he is referred to as a dog in this text. The condemned man became an animal-like figure due to his government. How the man became like an animal symbolizes how the totalitarianism run governments of third-world countries shape people into animals rather than human beings.…

Stories are told different ways after every generation, and that goes the same for fairy tales. Throughout time the main concept never changes, only by a slight bit. At first glance, Straparola story The Pig King would have nothing to do with the modern day adaption of Beauty and the Beast. However, the concept of the story is basically the same throughout, and these similarities lead me to believe that the, oh so famous, movie Beauty and the Beast originated from this tale. The symbolism throughout each story intertwines and creates one powerful theme about beauty.…

Lyrics like “My persuasion can build a nation” and “You will do anything for me” cast women in an inactive role even though they are supposedly in control. Rather than actually building a nation or doing things for themselves, these lyrics imply that women simply “persuade” others (presumably men) to do their bidding. This focus on passiveness comes from emphasized femininity, which stresses compliance and inaction for women (Williams Lecture, 10/20/15). The video also presents traditional stereotypes for men. The men of the rival group are dressed in military garb and wield weapons, representing the glorification of violence associated with hyper-masculinity.…
