The non-fiction book titled No Angel follows the story of Jay Dobyns in his attempts to infiltrate the Hells Angels outlaw motorcycle gang. The first section of the book follows Jay under his new undercover alias “Bird”. He travels to Bullhead City, Arizona, to meet a illegal arms dealer, leaving behind his wife Gwen, daughter Dale, and son Jack. When Jay first leaves for Bullhead City, I feel a strong feeling of sympathy for his family. The people that Jay deals with in the first part of his undercover story are criminals, because of this his family must prepare for the worst. During his 30 year stint, he worked a homicide case undercover in London, Ontario where he was among many Hells Angels for 8 weeks as the Hells Angels were responsible for the murder. I think that my stepfather’s undercover work had an influence of the choice of book for this ISU. Also, the setting of the story is in a rundown town where anything goes. Jay often goes down to the Bullhead City bar with the people he befriended for his case. I think that I can relate to this setting because when my mother was around 22 she worked downtown Guelph as a bartender. This is a direct connection as she worked as bartender for 4 years. My mother was one of the people that recommend this to me and I feel this is because she thought that I would also have a connection similar to the one that she had. Overall, this book has many parts to connect with and I recommend it to all
