NMC Code of conduct:
In NMC Code of Conduct (2015) there are many guidelines associated to blood glucose monitoring. For example, the significance of requesting the permission of the patient and communicate in well behaved manner. A substantial assent must be given by the patient preceding any method. However such patients can be dealt under their own interest. For details and guidance the nurses should refer to Trust Consent Policy.
Nurses should maintain patient’s dignity, answer to patient’s concerns, respond to patient’s physical, social and psychological requirements, fulfil best interest of the patient, maintain patients,s privacy and confidentiality, practice based on available evidence, communicate clearly, work cooperatively, share skills, knowledge and experience with colleagues, keep proper records of the practice, work in the limits of expertise, help in emergency, act without delay, raise concerns whenever required, uphold the reputation of profession and fulfil registration requirements.

From the above discussion it is evident that, there are conflicting reports available for the application of best method applicable for the glucose monitoring. By looking at all the observations, nurses should develop the skills to select the optimum and accurate method of choice for glucose monitoring. While selecting specific method of blood sampling nurses should assess factors like: instrument used for monitoring blood glucose, purpose of monitoring whether for diagnosis or monitoring treatment, and whether pre-operative or post-operative and condition of the patient whether critical or noncritical. Because these above mentioned factors individually or in combination affect blood glucose
