Title: Car: Nissan Silvia S15

The Nissan Silvia is the name given to the longest running line of sports cars that Nissan has produced and is based on the Nissan S platform of cars. Some recent models have shared a similar chassis with some of the other vehicles that Nissan produced, however, the name Silvia is specific and not interchangeable with the chassis codes.

While there is a long line of Nissan Silvia cars that were created by Nissan, this post is going to focus strictly on the Nissan Silvia S15, which is only available in Japan, Australia and New Zealand. In Australia and New Zealand, the car was sold under the name Nissan 200SX, rather than the Nissan Silvia S15.

Spec-R
The Spec-R was different from all of the previous Silvia models because it featured a 6-speed manual transmission and has an extensive chassis and strengthened suspension because of the large anti-roll bars and strut bracing. In addition, the Spec-R features a similar 4-piston front brake calipers and a larger brake booster.

The 6-speed manual transmission resulted in a safer, better track-suited drive in contrast to the media attention the model received. HICAS, which stands for High Capacity Active Steering, four-wheel steering, was also available as an option on the Spec-R. Finally, the Nissan Silvia S15 Spec-R was featured as a starter car in Real Racing

Where the Spec-S lacked however, was in the fact that it did not have the additional chassis support the Spec-R had and has a slightly smaller brake booster. However, it did still have the 4-piston front brake caliper. The Spec-S came with an open differential and the Spec-S models that were available in Australia features the same helical differential, chassis bracing and 6-speed manual transmission as the Spec-R models available in Australia.

Both the Spec-R and the Spec-S line were expanded to include various luxury and upgrade packages. There were some options that featured the body and interior modeled after the Ferrari 456 and there were some options that increased the engine output through increased compression, aggressive camshafts and better intake and exhaust tracts. The version with the increased engine output also has the 6-speed transmission and other upgrades that are usually only found in the Spec-R model.
