I feel as if L’Enclos was trying to say that if you don’t try or give the world your all, the world won’t respond in your favor. If you wanted a specific thing out of life it isn’t just going to be handed to you and you can’t be upset when the world doesn’t respond the way you want it to. To me this quote reminds me a lot about school, if I just showed up to school and went through my day expecting to automatically
