Nine Lessons Of Christmas Vespers

Christmas Vespors
The Christmas Vespers was based on the nine lessons which were Christmas carols. It also included reading from the scripture. The main idea of the Christmas Vespers was to embrace the birth of Jesus and the fall of man kind. Instead of just telling the story through the scripture music was added appositely to the nine readings. This rendition of the Christmas Vespers was exceptionally enjoyable.
The show opened up with the Adam giving into the temptation to Eve and the apple. The music in itself tells the story of what is taking place on the stage. It explains that Adam had been forbidden to take a bite of the fruit. Despite the warning Adam disobeyed and that is why we are here today. I liked that this story was included because it brings the audience back to the place where it all started.

The song explains the arrival of an Angel that tells Mary she will conceive baby Jesus. The angel tells her she was specifically chosen for this task because she was significantly privileged. The lesson is rather short but that does not take away from its importance. Although it was not one of my favorite lessons it is still vital in telling the story. The music that was introduced into this scene had to be my least favorite. To me the actual music did not fully do this story any justice. The sixth lesson follows shortly after that and it is the about the birth of baby Jesus it seems as though it completes the fifth lesson.
A Christmas carol is the main highlight of the seventh lesson. The song is based on the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus. I believe that this lesson was suppose to show how Jesus went around to the poorest of people and taught his word. Although the music seems rather sad, the scripture reassured the audience that it was not just a time of death. It showed the length that Jesus went to spread his word. This to me was one of the most dramatic

A Christmas Carol Analysis I have loved A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens since I was little so I was very excited to see how Michael Daehn brought this iconic story to life. In his version, I believe that Daehn wanted to convey the heart of this story. To share the message of hope and selflessness and redemption and perhaps to inspire and enlighten the audience. By choosing to use a version of this play that incorporates music he not only brought this story to life but brought the audience into the story.…

Comparison Between The Rite of Spring and Appalachian Spring The Rite of Spring (1913), composed by Igor Stravinsky, and Appalachian Spring (1944), by Aaron Copland, are ballets that center around folk culture. The Rite of Spring suggests a story of human sacrifice and has an overall a harsh and almost disturbing mood. Appalachian Spring tells the story of a new couple celebrating their new house and is lively and happy. The two ballets stem from a common base of folk culture, yet the mood of each one is very different due to the individual emotions that the composers wanted to express.…

The Visitation of the Sepulcher Drama is such a unique form of literature, and it is the one I enjoy the most. There is just something about the idea of talented/skilled actors and actresses performing a masterpiece onstage that makes me overjoyed. Many themes also boggle my mind when it comes to drama. One of these themes is theology, or religion. This theme inspires me to do the work of Christ, and to be good to my neighbors.…

A Christmas classic performed at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis for over forty years, A Christmas Carol wows audiences with its intricate design and special effects. This production was directed by Joe Chvala, adapted from the original Dickens novel by Crispin Whittell. A tradition for many local families, the theatre even lowers its age requirement for this one play so that children of all ages might enjoy the reclamation of Scrooge, a wealthy man whose name has become synonymous with a lack of Christmas cheer. This year’s production was not without significant weak spots.…

The chant melody is from the setting of the Gradual Viderunt Omnes from the Mass for Christmas Day. The original piece features a soloist that performs the psalm verse which alternates with a choir that sings the respond. This verse is extremely ornate, and the respond is also very melismatic. It is the only part of the Mass for Christmas Day that is in mode 5. Because of its highly melismatic nature, it was viewed as an appropriate candidate for future composers to base new works off of with ample room for interpretation and adaptation.…
