Nils Christie (1986) referred to ‘the ideal victim’ as someone who is blameless and innocent in the eyes of society and the media; someone who plays no part in their victimization, as opposed to someone who is a ‘blameworthy’ victim; a person whose actions play a part in their victimization. Characteristics of an ideal victim include someone vulnerable, weak, and going about their daily routine and being unacquainted with the offender. If a blameworthy victim had done something differently, they could've prevented their victimization.
