Fig (3-24) is extrapolate contour map for Associated Amplification of ground motion (Ao) of Nile Delta Area , from this map we notice the following :
A - The value of (Ao) in the Central, Eastern and Northern part of Nile Delta is the same in most points and varied from 4 to 5.
B - The value of (Ao) in the North Western part of Nile Delta and Alexandria is the same in most points and varied from 5 to 7 and this is may be one of the reasons of Building collapse in Alexandria governorate.

The aim is to know the nature of these subsoil’s, their dynamic behavior and how these soils resist the earthquake or can amplify the seismic waves and cause considered damages.
The selected sites in Nile Delta area are the same sites where H/V spectral ratios were measured (chapter 3). 2-D seismic refraction modeling technique is applied to calculate the number of layers, their thickness, and VP – and SH wave velocities for each layer. The dynamic (elastic) characteristics are calculated to know the physical nature of each layer.
Shallow seismic refraction technique. Seismic refraction technique is mainly used to determine the interfaces between layers of different seismic velocities. And also used to determine lateral and vertical changes in the soil content. Seismic refraction technique has been widely applied in engineering purposes (e.g., subways constructions, quarries, tunnels, dam sites,…) (e.g., Hawkins, 1961; Redpath, 1973; Al-Shuhail and Shaibani, 2011). According to (Redpath, 1973) refraction profile length should be three to five times of the maximum expected depth penetration of seismic …show more content…
Field survey at Nile Delta area
In order to calculate the seismic velocities of subsoil (Vp and Vs) in the Nile Delta of Egypt, 25 sites were selected in the study area. A school yard is chosen to do survey which is away from traffic noise, away from people ….etc. Shallow seismic refraction survey was carried out to determine the ground model and subsurface structures and to define the geotechnical characteristics for the shallow subsurface
