When you are watching a movie and it gets just a little too loud it only takes a click of a button to fix that, and when you want to remember a moment forever all it takes is a little raise of a camera and a click. Nikola accomplished many great things in his lifetime. Simple things that make life easier are often overlooked, but we have Nikola Tesla to thank for many; Tesla developed the alternating-current electrical system that is widely used today. Nikola was born July 10, 1856, in what is now Croatia. He is thought to have gotten his love for inventing from his mother, Djuka Mantic. Djuka invented small household items as Nikola was growing up. His father, Milutin Tesla, was a priest. In the 1870’s …show more content…
Edison gave Tesla a challenge; he told Tesla that if he could make a stable DC system he would be paid $50,000. Tesla made the system stable and saved Thomas Edison over $100,000, but when Tesla asked for his money Edison laughed; “You simply don’t understand American humor.” Tesla left the company furious. Nikola Tesla began his own company; he drew people in with money, power, and connections. Tesla promised a new kind of electricity, but Edison had the media wrapped around his finger. He lashed out saying that Tesla’s AC system was dangerous, that it was not stable. He even hired someone to make an “electric death chair” with the AC system as an example as to how destructive the system could be. They tested the chair on a very unfortunate guinea pig. Edison’s scam worked for a while, but just three years after the chair incident Tesla hit Edison hard. He claimed to be working on a ‘Niagara Falls Project,’ the biggest project in electricity yet. Tesla quickly gained ground. He yanked the World’s Fair deal right out from under Edison’s feet. World’s Fair was the biggest form of publicity at the time; approximately half the population of America would come to the fair. Edison could not compete with the inexpensive design of Tesla’s AC. Nikola also created his own lightbulb design so he would not need Edition’s, and Tesla’s bulb was cheaper, lasted longer, and burned brighter. At the fair Tesla
